Photo Shoot in Different Light

I had some unexpected free time this morning, so I put on my boots, grabbed my two dogs, and ventured out into the woods behind my house.  It was 9am, I was hoping it wasn't too late to capture some nice soft morning light.  The sun is filtered today through a light cloud cover.  I was hoping for some breaks of morning light shining down.

I normally find it difficult to take photos unless there is a good source of light, so that subjects seem to sparkle and cast interesting shadows.  There was only diffused and soft light on my walk this morning.  What I find frustrating is being able to capture the light that I see, as beautiful and radiant as it appears to my eye.  For instance, there was a pond where I walked and the diffused light was glistening on the pond as well as on the many interesting grasses around the pond.  I found it difficult to capture that amazing light.

I did manage to take some photos that I was happy with.  I find that light is key to me in what I am drawn towards to take a photograph of -  I found in my journey today that I was only really inspired to take a photo of objects/subjects if they had even the littlest bit of light.

The light seemed to be cast just on these dried flowers, setting them apart from the background a bit

I liked how the diffused light hit this twisted twig

My ever faithful companions leading the way

Being with Seamus is like always having the perfect model along - I was happy to capture a bit of sunlight shining on him through the clouds

Wet with dew and lit with a little sun

The green of the moss is a welcome boost of color in the winter woods, I liked the way a quick moment of sunlight hit this little woodland bank

I love the picture of Seamus. I am sure he is beautiful in any light but that was a perfect picture.

Your dogs are indeed beautiful, as is your photo of the branches withthe water drops.

Isn't it inspiring to find how just the slightest bit of bright light makes a special effect on something - like the moss, the branches, or your dog's hair, and worthy to take a picture of? Love Seamus' pose. What a wonderful walk you had, and pictures with memories.

These photos are great examples of light. I know what you mean about not being able to capture the light that you see sometimes. Maybe with time we will be able to! To me, it looks like you have a real affinity for taking photographs of animals and close ups of things like rusty spindles. They are my favorites in your last few posts.

I loved the lighting in your photo examples, especially the one on the dog's fur (Seamus) - it made everything look so soft. The branches were lovely too and the softness of the moss was really well captured.

Aaaahhhh, soft diffused light is one of my favorites! It has such a gentle quality that highlights the form of the object, like your twig shot shows. Lovely images, you did a great job of working with the light to find what inspired you on this diffused day. Love the image of Seamus!

I can relate to your love of light and while this day may have been softer than you prefer, it was perfect in my book. That gentle light after a rain or foggy morning, can be luscious. These images form a beautiful collection - dried foliage, twisting twigs, moss, and Seamus is stunning!

What lovely light! I love soft, diffused light...the shot of beautiful Seamus - his fur coat outlined with sun - perfection! And, the twig, and the scattered sunshine on the emerald green moss. Lovely, lovely! What a beautiful walk in the woods with your trusted companions.
